Problem Statement

Despite multiple education loan options, students struggle to navigate the complex financial aid landscape. The lack of a unified, transparent platform results in frustration, delays, and, in many cases, students abandoning their educational pursuits.

📌 72% of students find the loan process confusing (India Today).
📌 50% of loan applications face delays due to incomplete documents (SBI Education Loan Report).
📌 40% of students drop out of the loan process due to lack of transparency (HDFC Education Loan Report).

Approach: Reimagining the Education Loan Journey

To create a seamless, student-friendly experience, I focused on three key areas:

Loan Discovery & Comparison – Personalized recommendations based on eligibility.
Hassle-Free Document Verification – Hybrid (digital + offline) options to reduce drop-offs.
Real-time Tracking & Smart Repayment Management – Loan updates, EMI reminders, and payoff strategies.

The Loan Landscape

Competitor Analysis

To identify gaps, I analyzed key players:

Key Findings:

  • No single platform offers an end-to-end digital experience.

  • Lack of transparency leads to student hesitation in sharing details.

  • Students still rely on in-person bank visits for clarity, increasing process inefficiencies.

Unveiling Student Insights

Methodology:
Online survey (25 respondents, age groups: <18, 18-24, 25-30)
12 empathy interviews 1) Students pursuing MBA 2) Student wants loan for domestic college 3) Student pursuing higher education abroad 4) Students pursuing vocational courses

Key Insights

Fragmented Process

A fragmented landscape with a mix of online and offline options, with a diverse range of lending institutions.

Unclear eligibility

Students hesitate to disclose personal details without upfront knowledge of loan eligibility criteria

Trust Issues

Students seek reassurance and trust with traditional banks, preferring personal engagement over digital convenience

Delay in Communication

Users aren't kept in loop,They need to constantly reach out to their bank for application status and updates

Building Trust & Personalization

How might we create a transparent, student-friendly education loan platform?

To address the core pain points, I focused on:
AI-driven loan recommendations for better discovery.
Seamless digital verification with offline pickup options.
Real-time loan tracking & repayment nudges for anxiety-free management.

Low fidelity Iterations & Usability Testing

Following initial testing, several friction points emerged:

📌 Onboarding Confusion – Users felt lost navigating the onboarding flow, often skipping personal information using breadcrumb navigation.

📌 Lack of Loan Transparency – Many users checked documentation details first before exploring loans, indicating the need for clearer upfront information.

📌 Navigation Issues – Users frequently wanted to compare loans but found navigation unintuitive, often using the back button to return to the homepage.

The Edueez Experience

📌 A five-step guided process using breadcrumbs for progressive disclosure.

📌 Users provide details to get personalized loan recommendations.

Smarter Loan Discovery

🎯 Personalized Recommendations – AI-driven loan options based on student profiles.
🔍 Transparent Loan Info – Eligibility, interest rates & required documents upfront.
📊 EMI Calculator & Comparisons – Save & compare multiple loan plans.

📌 Users filter loans based on interest rates, repayment terms, and eligibility.
📌 ‘Save & Compare’ feature helps users evaluate multiple options.

Bank Loan Card Iterations

Hassle-Free Document Verification

📂 Digital & Offline Verification – Upload online or schedule in-person document pickup.
📌 One-click Multi-Application – Apply to multiple lenders simultaneously.

Real-time Tracking & Smart Repayment

📢 Live Status Updates – Notifications at key stages (approval, disbursal, repayment).
💡 Smart Repayment Strategies – Nudges to pay off loans faster.

Impact & Next Steps

This project deepened my ability to tackle complex fintech UX challenges by integrating trust, transparency, and personalization.

Next Steps for Real-World Implementation:
OCR-based auto-filling to reduce manual data entry.
Loan eligibility predictor using past approval patterns.
Gamified repayment nudges to encourage early loan payoffs.

KEY LEARNINGS

What could be Improved?

Limiting the Scope

As per feedback the scope could be defined well and limited to discovery due to time constraints

Domain Nuances

When you really look at each part of the process, you see it's not all easy. Each step needs careful attention.

Documentation

Documenting all the primary information and retrieving it was difficult and I learnt better ways to do affinity mapping

Management

The project taught me the importance of time management and planning
